Vowel-only place names
Aeaea is Circe’s mythical island in the *Odyssey*, which Roman tradition associated with Italy’s Cape Circeo; this is an ancient literary identification, not a proven former name of the mountain. The spellings Aeaea and Eiao contain only Latin vowel letters. The official Hawaiian spelling of the town is ʻAiea, with an ʻokina, so “Aiea” without that mark is a simplified form.
Mythical island and real places have different status.
