Greenland’s ice loss
The Greenland Ice Sheet is losing mass as the climate warms, and some of that loss raises global sea level. In the reconciled estimate by the international IMBIE team, Greenland lost an average of 169 ± 9 billion tonnes of ice per year from 1992 to 2020; the loss corresponds to about 13.5 mm of global mean sea-level rise in the IPCC assessment. Annual values vary substantially.
Satellite observations track mass loss from Greenland’s ice sheet.
