Cycling and air in Groningen

Groningen is known for prioritizing cycling and restricting cars in its centre, but the 65% figure does not describe the share of residents who cycle. The Dutch Clean Air Agreement reports that about 66% of all traffic movements in the city are made by bicycle; Guinness earlier cited about 50% of all trips citywide and 60% in the centre. The municipality does have a zone closed to most motor vehicles during certain hours. The source describes air as relatively healthy but does not establish that it is among the country’s cleanest.
