Bamboo's rapid growth
Under favorable conditions, some bamboo species can elongate by nearly a metre a day—Guinness World Records gives a maximum of up to 91 cm per day. A young shoot grows through rapid cell division and elongation across many internodes developing at once; this does not mean that a fully formed stem simply “unfolds.” Bamboo is used for food, construction, and making paper and many other products.
