Male Life Expectancy and Mortality

Over the long term, global male life expectancy has risen substantially, but the trend is not smooth: pandemics, wars, crises, and other events can cause marked setbacks. The UN estimates global life expectancy at birth at 73.3 years in 2024 after the pandemic decline; male life expectancy fell between 2019 and 2021. Wars have not disappeared, so improvements in safety cannot be attributed to a single cause. [1–3]

Long-term gains in life expectancy can be interrupted by crises.
