How a Camel Guards Against Sand

Camels have several adaptations for windy deserts: long eyelashes and bushy eyebrows help keep sand out, and a translucent nictitating membrane can cover the eye. The nostrils can narrow and close. Broad, two-toed feet with padded soles spread weight over a larger area, helping the animal move across loose sand. These are several distinct adaptations working together, not a single all-purpose defense.
