The Liver's Ability to Regenerate
The liver can undergo compensatory growth after substantial surgical removal: reviews and studies describe recovery after removal of roughly 70% of the tissue. But “75% and back to normal size in a month” is too precise as a universal rule. The pace depends on liver and patient health; the remaining lobes enlarge rather than the exact removed tissue regrowing in its original shape. [1–2]
The liver compensates for tissue loss, but recovery times vary.
