Honey with low available water can keep for a long time when it is sealed and protected from moisture. But reliable sources do not confirm the story that archaeologists tasted honey from an Egyptian tomb after 3,000 years and found it edible. Researchers have identified ancient vessel residues as honey, but analyzing a residue does not prove it was fit to eat.
