A little wonder, every day
How quickly Ukraine’s bank register grew

At the end of 1992, Ukraine had 133 registered banks; at the end of 1993, it had 211. These figures appear in a historical IMF table citing the National Bank of Ukraine. The register grew by 78 institutions in one year, reflecting rapid expansion during the banking system’s early development.
A registered bank does not necessarily mean one operating actively and successfully. Registered totals, licenses for particular operations and liquidations are different indicators. They should not be combined when assessing the system’s size or health.
