Dalí on his older brother

In *The Secret Life of Salvador Dalí* (1942), the artist described an older brother, also named Salvador, who died before Dalí was born. Dalí wrote that his brother was a “first version” of himself and later made *Portrait of My Dead Brother* (c. 1963). This is autobiographical narrative and artistic imagery, not evidence of reincarnation; a museum overview notes that the book blends factual and fictionalized events.
