Stonehenge’s phases

Stonehenge developed in several phases rather than as one continuous construction project. Its earliest known major monument—the earthwork ditch and bank—dates to about 3000 BC; the principal stone circle was erected around 2500 BC. Later prehistoric activity continued until roughly 1500 BC, leaving about 1,500 years between the earliest and latest phases.
