Урочистий похорон ноги Санта-Анни
Mexican general and president Antonio López de Santa Anna lost a leg during the 1838 French intervention. In September 1842, his amputated limb was moved from Veracruz to the capital and buried in a grand state ceremony at the Santa Paula cemetery. Contemporary observer Brantz Mayer described the procession, military escort, and burial of the leg in a monument.
So the funeral is not a myth, but the claim that Santa Anna personally “organized” it should be qualified: sources describe a public/state ceremony without establishing his personal role in planning it. He had lost the leg four years earlier.
