Singapore, the city-state

Singapore is commonly described as the world’s largest and most populous sovereign city-state. This holds when comparing independent states that function as city-states: Singapore has about six million residents and an area of roughly 710 km², larger than Monaco and Vatican City. However, “city-state” can be defined in different ways, and dependent urban territories such as Hong Kong are not sovereign states.
