In a study of wild adult male mountain gorillas, larger males produced chest beats with lower peak sound frequencies than smaller males. The researchers found no consistent link between body size and chest-beat duration, number of beats, or beat rate. This is an acoustic signal of size in a specific study, not evidence that a gorilla can lift 8–10 times its own weight.
