Bones and Joints of the Foot
Each adult foot is commonly described as having 26 bones and 33 joints, giving 52 bones in both feet. An adult skeleton typically has 206 bones, so the feet contain about one quarter. Each foot also has more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments combined—this does not mean more than 100 muscles alone. Anatomical variation and counting conventions can affect exact joint totals.
