Colors of Sunset
When the Sun is low on the horizon, its light travels through a longer atmospheric path. Molecules and particles scatter short-wavelength blue light more strongly, so direct sunlight often appears yellow, orange, or red. The sky’s colors also depend on clouds, dust, smoke, and aerosols; a crimson sunset is not guaranteed. [1–3]
A longer atmospheric path scatters away more blue light.
