In a 1974 ABC interview, Arthur C. Clarke described a future in which domestic computer terminals would provide information and banking records and allow people to work from home. This was a perceptive forecast of networked services, rather than the technical invention of the World Wide Web. Berners-Lee proposed the Web at CERN in 1989, fifteen years after that interview, rather than nineteen. Networked computers and earlier data-sharing systems preceded the Web.
