Iceland, ice and volcanoes

Iceland is an island of glaciers and volcanism. Glaciers cover about 10% of its area, and the country has around 41 active volcanic systems; their volcanoes may be beneath glaciers, underwater, or on land. The specific claim “more than 200 volcanoes” needs qualification: authoritative sources count volcanic systems and separately report more than 200 eruptions over roughly 11 centuries—these are not the same thing [1–3].

In Iceland, ice and volcanism literally coexist.
