Warm metal expands, moving the tower’s top.

The Sun heats one side of the Eiffel Tower more than the others. The warmth makes the iron expand slightly, so the top leans and can trace a circle about 15 centimeters across during the day. The tower’s height itself changes by only a few millimeters, not by more than 10 centimeters.
