«Лише 22 країни не зазнали британського вторгнення»

The figure of 22 comes from historian Stuart Laycock’s popular book *All the Countries We’ve Ever Invaded* (2012): he writes that Britain invaded or fought conflicts in the territory of 171 of the 193 then-current UN member states. This is not the result of an academic project using one reproducible definition of “invasion.” The book uses an exceptionally broad rule, including varied raids, brief interventions, colonial campaigns, and military actions on territories whose borders and names later changed. The list of 22 countries (including Andorra, Belarus, Bolivia, the Vatican, Mongolia, and Sweden) should therefore be attributed to the author’s method; it does not establish that the UK formally invaded 171 modern states in the ordinary sense of the word.
