The cheetah’s sprint

The cheetah is the fastest land-running animal. Field GPS tracking of five wild cheetahs recorded a top speed of 93 km/h; most observed hunts took place at more moderate speeds. Chases are brief, and hunting success depends not only on peak speed but also on rapid acceleration, braking, and maneuvering. Popular estimates above 100 km/h often do not come from modern controlled measurements.
