"150 kilocalories an hour" from head-banging?

The figure of 150 kilocalories per hour appears in an old energy-expenditure table in Thad Starner’s dissertation, attributed there to a 1952 source. It is not a modern controlled estimate and should not be treated as a reliable value for people. The 2024 Adult Compendium of Physical Activities does not list this as a separately measured activity. Head impacts are dangerous and can cause concussion or other injury; do not try this to burn calories.

The historical 150 kcal/hour estimate is not confirmed by modern measurements.
