Fact 1113 — Saudi sand and camels

The claim combines separate stories. Some natural desert sand can be too fine or rounded for particular concrete mixes, but suitability depends on grain size and intended use; a study of Riyadh sands tests mix performance rather than proving all local sand is unsuitable. Trade data show a small import of silica sand from the United Kingdom, but do not identify Scotland as the source of construction sand. Separately, Australia shipped camels to Saudi Arabia for the meat market in 2002; this is unrelated to construction sand. [1–4]
