The funeral scene in Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi brought together about 300,000 extras: more than 200,000 volunteers and another 94,560 contracted performers. Eleven camera crews filmed it in a single morning, yet the finished scene lasts only 125 seconds. Guinness cautions that the total is an estimate; other sources give higher figures.
