How fast pearls grow
A growth rate around 0.1 mm per year is only an approximate guide, not a universal constant. For example, the University of Nebraska gives about 0.1–0.2 mm per year for nacre deposition; cultured-pearl nacre thickness and growth rate depend on the mollusk species and conditions.
Nacre may grow about 0.1–0.2 mm per year
