The science of soils

The scientific study of soils is called soil science. The English term *pedology* is also used for soil science, and in a narrower sense for the study of soil formation, morphology, and classification. It should not be confused with *paedology*, a separate term for the study of children’s development. The source statement incorrectly treats these as equivalent spellings.
