Мохаммед Алі та американські заручники в Іраку

In late November 1990, Muhammad Ali traveled to Baghdad on an independent humanitarian mission and met Saddam Hussein, seeking the release of Americans held in Iraq and occupied Kuwait. Contemporary reports differ by a few days on the meeting date (November 27 or 29). Ali departed Baghdad on December 2 with 15 American hostages and arrived in the United States on December 4. Some reports say he “helped secure” their release, while others simply report that he returned with 15; the careful formulation is that his meeting and negotiations preceded the release of this group, without attributing Iraq’s decision solely to him.
