Water Use in an American Household

More than 100,000 gallons per year for a home is plausible when both indoor and outdoor use are included, but it is not a fixed amount for every household. The EPA estimates average use by an American family at more than 300 gallons per day—over 109,500 gallons per year—with outdoor irrigation varying greatly by climate and landscaping. This is water use, not necessarily the amount irreversibly consumed. [1–3]
