The Sun's hot core

At the Sun’s center, the temperature reaches about 15 million °C. At these temperatures and immense pressure, nuclear fusion takes place in the core and powers the star. This is not the temperature of the visible surface: the Sun’s photosphere is about 5,500 °C.
