Insects among animals

Insects are the most species-rich described animal group: more than a million insect species are known, more than in any other major animal group. But “more insects than all other animals combined” is ambiguous: for individual animals, there is no reliable global census; for species, undescribed diversity and estimates of total richness leave substantial uncertainty.
