Fox Kits Start Life With Their Eyes Closed

Newborn fox kits are helpless: they are born blind, and their eyes open at about nine days; hearing also develops after birth. During the first weeks, the female stays with the young in the den. The male helps the family by bringing food to the female and, later, to the offspring; this does not replace maternal nursing. Exact developmental timing and caregiving roles can vary.
