Esther Elwell survived the Salem accusations

Esther Elwell, an ancestor of actor Sarah Jessica Parker, was arrested on a witchcraft accusation in colonial Massachusetts in 1692. The University of Virginia’s digital archive dates her case to November 5 and lists her among the accused. She was not executed: the court proceedings collapsed, and Elwell was not among those executed. Calling her “the last woman accused” is too categorical: she is sometimes described as the last formally arrested in this wave, but accusations and court cases continued later.
