In the tenth century, silver Arab dirhams reached Rus trading centres. In the Gnezdovo hoard, dated to the second half of the tenth century, the Louvre records 72 dirhams; most were turned into pendants. The find documents links between Rus and the Islamic world, but does not mean the dirham was the only monetary unit.
