Trees on Earth and stars in the Milky Way

A 2015 estimate counted about 3.04 trillion trees on Earth—more than the roughly 100–400 billion stars estimated for the Milky Way. The same study estimated a gross annual loss of about 15.3 billion trees from cutting, forest management, disturbances, and land-use change. This is a model-based estimate, not a direct yearly count, and it does not by itself describe the net balance after planting. [1–3]
