de Broglie Waves and Quantum Mechanics

Yes. Louis de Broglie’s hypothesis that particles have wave properties was an important step in the development of quantum mechanics. In his 1924 doctoral thesis, he proposed that wave behavior is not limited to light: material particles, including electrons, also have a wave nature. Later electron-diffraction experiments confirmed the idea.

De Broglie did not create quantum mechanics alone: his concept inspired Erwin Schrödinger’s wave mechanics, while Werner Heisenberg and others developed different formulations of the theory. De Broglie received the 1929 Nobel Prize for the discovery of the wave nature of electrons.
