Sublimation and Dry Ice
Sublimation is the direct transition of a solid to a gas without passing through a liquid phase. At ordinary atmospheric pressure, solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) does not melt into a liquid; it sublimates at about −78.5 °C. Dry ice requires careful handling: it can cause cold burns, and CO₂ can accumulate in poorly ventilated spaces.
