Walt Disney World in Florida operates a large system of canals and waterways that helps carry stormwater away and manage water levels. In its fiscal 2025 report, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District describes 66 miles (about 106 km) of canals and waterways and 25 major water-control structures. Some gates open automatically as water pressure rises during a storm, allowing excess water to pass downstream; this does not mean every part of the system operates without electricity. TEA’s 2024 estimates add up to about 51.8 million visits to the resort’s four theme parks and two water parks combined; this is park attendance, not a count of unique people.
