Mawsynram and monsoon rainfall

Mawsynram in Meghalaya, India, is one of the planet’s wettest places. A widely cited climatological estimate gives average annual rainfall of about 11,872 mm—nearly 12 m. NASA reports that average and more than 25.4 m in 1985. The absolute “wettest place” record depends on observation period and station data quality; nearby Cherrapunji is also often in contention.
