In the U.S., a reactor license can be renewed for up to 80 years

U.S. licenses can be renewed after review.

An initial U.S. nuclear reactor operating license is generally issued for 40 years. After review, the regulator can renew it for 20 years, and a further renewal can allow operation for up to 80 years total. This does not mean every reactor operates that long: decisions depend on safety reviews and management of aging equipment.
