Plants Emit Photons Too Faint to See

Plant tissues release individual photons during chemical processes in their cells. This ultraweak emission is so dim that the human eye cannot see it; only specially sensitive cameras in a dark laboratory can detect it. It is associated with metabolism and oxidative reactions, and stress can change its intensity. It is not a bright light that plants deliberately use for photosynthesis, nor is it chlorophyll fluorescence or delayed glow after illumination.
