У тілі дорослої людини є приблизно три-чотири грами заліза, більша частина — у гемоглобіні. Якби цю масу уявно перетворити на суцільне металеве залізо, вона займала б лише близько 0,38–0,51 кубічного сантиметра — об’єм крихітного годинникового гвинтика.
