Jupiter: Magnetic Field and the Great Red Spot

Jupiter has the strongest planetary magnetosphere in the Solar System. Its magnetic moment is about 20,000 times Earth’s, but that does not mean the field strength near the cloud tops is also 20,000 times stronger. Jupiter is also known for the Great Red Spot, a giant atmospheric vortex observed for more than 300 years. Its shape and size have changed over the course of observations.
