The stapedius in the middle ear is described as the smallest human skeletal muscle. Its tendon attaches to the stapes, an auditory ossicle. It is distinct from tensor tympani, which attaches to the malleus. These two small muscles are different anatomical structures; no universal exact two-millimeter length is asserted here.
