Singaporean artist Keng Lye creates lifelike aquatic animals inside clear containers. He pours a layer of clear resin, waits for it to harden, and paints another part of the image on it with acrylic; then he repeats the process. The layers place parts of the image at different depths, making a fish look three-dimensional and almost real, even though it is paint and resin rather than a living animal in the container.
