"Potato-cooking time" in the Andes

Some historical works report Andean expressions that described a duration by how long a pot of potatoes took to cook. This may have served as an everyday time reference. The evidence does not establish a formal empire-wide Inca unit exactly equal to one hour under that name. The claim has a historical basis as a local way to describe duration, but the popular version overgeneralizes and assigns an imprecise fixed length.
