In 2017 adidas introduced Futurecraft 4D with a midsole made using Carbon Digital Light Synthesis. Light and a controlled liquid resin allow a complex resilient lattice to be formed. Digital design enables changes to the midsole’s geometry and properties, but this does not mean every retail pair was individually printed for its owner’s foot. A promise of future printing inside shops must be distinguished from a demonstrated manufacturing process.
