Chewing side is not set by handedness

Some people have a preferred chewing side, but that does not mean all right-handers chew mainly on the right and left-handers on the left. In a study of 117 dentate adults, chewing-side preference was related to asymmetry in bite force and tooth contacts, but not to handedness. Other studies report mixed results depending on methods and samples. It is not a general rule; preference can be individual and influenced by oral health and occlusion.
