Average precipitation on Earth

About one metre of precipitation per year is a reasonable average depth spread over Earth’s entire surface, including oceans. Satellite and gauge-based climate datasets give a global mean of about 2.6–2.8 mm per day, or roughly 0.95–1.02 m per year. The land-only average is lower, and local amounts vary greatly.

The global mean is about 1 m/year over the whole surface
