The Smallest Bird Weighs Under Two Grams

The bee hummingbird lives only in Cuba and is considered the world’s smallest living bird. An adult male weighs about 1.6 g—roughly as much as a large paper clip. During activity, a hummingbird’s heart can beat up to 1,200 times per minute. That figure is reported for hummingbirds generally, not as a species-specific measurement for the bee hummingbird.
