The Bee Dance: A Map to Food

Honeybees can tell nestmates where to search for food using the “waggle dance.” On vertical combs, the angle of the waggle run relative to vertical encodes direction relative to the Sun, while its duration indicates approximate distance. Odor and signals about resource value also help bees find and assess the source. This navigational communication is found in honeybees, not universally across all bees.
